COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Kelly Shipman gained her 20th pitching victory of the season and was four-for-seven with four runs scored on the day as Maryland swept a college softball doubleheader from UNC Charlotte at the North Fields Softball Complex. The Terps won the first game, 2-1, and took the second game, 4-0. Shipman had two doubles, one home run and two RBI as she led the Terps offensively.

Maryland's record is now 36-18 while UNC Charlotte is now 19-24. The 36 wins for the Terps in an ongoing school record.

Shipman struck out five and allowed only two hits as Maryland won game one, 2-1. She earned her 20th victory and her 28th complete game of the season. Offensively, she hit her seventh home run of the season in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1 and scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. She led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Michelle Burrell. She scored the winning run on a double down the left field line by sophomore Jennifer Potzman.

Sherry Olekson suffered the loss for the 49ers despite allowing only two earned runs. Freshmen Kiley Scott and Stephanie Dunlap had hits for UNC Charlotte. Dunlap chipped in with an RBI double in the fourth to give the 49ers the first lead of the game.

Maryland won the second game with single runs in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings. Shipman scored two runs and had one RBI, Burrell had two hits and freshman Beth Radford drove home her 29th run of the season.

Freshman Amanda Bettker struck out five as she earned her fourth shutout. Senior Brooks Bower pitched her ninth complete game of the season.

Maryland plays host to North Carolina in a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 on Sunday.
