Maryland's Vicki Brick Out Indefinitely With ACL Tear

Oct. 12, 2000

College Park, Md. - Maryland point guard Vicki Brick (Timonium, Md.) will be sidelined indefinitely after sustaining a tear to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last Friday. Brick underwent successful surgery in Baltimore on Monday, and will miss at least half of the Terrapins' upcoming season.

The sophomore guard, a starter at point guard for Maryland last season, Brick sustained the injury during a pick-up game in Cole Field House Friday afternoon. During surgery, doctors confirmed that the only knee damaged was to the ACL, and that no other cartilage damage occurred during the injury. According to head coach Chris Weller, the surgery was a success.

"Because Vicki is such a fit person, we expect her to make a full recovery from this injury," commented Weller. "We're not going to put a time table on it, knowing that she can very easily be back as early as January. If it takes longer than that to heal, then it does. We're not going to push her to come back before she's ready."

The Terps' leader in steals and assists as a freshman, she was the team's starting point guard for 26 of the 31 games, including leading the team all the way to the WNIT quarterfinals. Her 3.1 steals per game average was a conference best, and was also second in ACC history in steals by a freshman (95). She finished the season third in ACC history for steals (3.1) and assists (4.3) average by a freshman. Brick finished her freshman campaign averaging 7.2 ppg and 3.3 rpg.
