COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's basketball team (3-0) dominated Wagner (0-2) in the opening round of the Terrapin Classic by a score of 89-44. Junior forward Renneika Razor (New York, N.Y.) led five Terrapins in double figures with a 15-point outing.

The Terps opened up an insurmountable lead in the opening minutes of the game, lauching a 27-2 run to begin the game, and holding Wagner to 1-for-16 shooting in the opening 10 minutes. Maryland began the game 13-for-25, dominating the Seahawks in every facet of the game. At the half, the Terps were shooting almost 60 percent and leading Wagner 47-18.

The second half was more of the same domination for the Terps. By the afternoon's end, Maryland saw five players with 10-plus points, including junior forward Deedee Warley (Fort Washington, Md.) with 14, junior guard Marche Strickland (Kingston, Mass.) with 13, freshman point guard Kiki Wimbush (Suitland, Md.) with 12, and freshman guard Sarah Jenkins (Bowie, Md.) with 10.

Maryland also posted a near-record assist total of 30, the most since the Terrapins tallied 32 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 30, 1999. Wimbush led the Terps in assists with seven. Sophomores Terri Daniels (Timonium, Md.) and Razor added five each.

The Terps have now held their first three opponents to 22 points or less in five out of six halves this year. Maryland's 57.4 shooting percentage was the highest since Dec. 20, 1999, when the Terps shot 58.3 from the floor against Richmond. Maryland's 45-point win Saturday was the largest margin of victory for the Terrapins since last season against Brown. In that game, held on Dec. 29, 1999, the Terps won 98-47, for a 51-point Maryland victory.

Maryland advances to meet Delaware, a 66-65 winner over Long Beach State in the other first-round game.
