Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Junior forward Deedee Warley (Fort Washington, Md.) posted her fourth double-double of the season (11 points and 13 rebounds) as Maryland rolled past Dayton, 69-55, Wednesday night at Cole Field House. The Terps improved to 5-0 on the young season, their best start since the 1991-92 season, when they opened the year 9-0.

The Terps got off to a slow start, falling behind 16-4 in the opening five minutes of play. Maryland stormed back, using a 27-3 to end the half and lead at the break, 31-19. Junior guard Marche Strickland (Kingston, Mass.) and sophomore guard Renneika Razor (New York, N.Y.) paced the Terps with seven points each at intermission. Maryland held Dayton to three points over the final 14:35 of the first stanza.

Maryland kept the pressure on early in the second half, outscoring Dayton 15-5, to take a commanding 46-26 lead. The Terrapins used a balanced attack as four players scored in double figures, including a team-high 14 points from Strickland and junior center Jamecca Harrell (Washington, D.C.). The 14 points were a season-high for Harrell. Along with Warley, Razor also finished the game with 11 points along with five rebounds and three assists. Freshman guard Kiki Wimbush (Suitland, Md.) tallied her first double-digit assist game, as she dished out 10 in the win for the Terps.

The Terrapin defense was stingy again, as it held Dayton to its lowest point total (55) and field goal percentage (34.9%) of the year. For the season, Maryland opponents are shooting just 32.2% from the field and are averaging just over 51 points per game.

The Terps return to the court Saturday, Dec. 2, at home against regional-rival UMBC. Maryland and UMBC have not met since the 1988-89 season when the Terps captured a lopsided 98-46 win. Saturday's tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
