Cleveland State Defeats Maryland Baseball Team 10-5

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Keith Lillash keyed a seven-run eighth inning with a three-run home run, propelling Cleveland State (3-8) to a 10-5 win over Maryland (3-7) in baseball action on Wednesday at Shipley Field.

Lillash finished the day 4-for-5 and Jerry Long pitched a complete game as the Vikings concluded their two-game sweep of the Terps.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Matt Smith scored on a Ross Smirnee ground out. Brian Patenaude tied up the game in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a solo home run to left-center field.

Maryland took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Chuck Easter singled home Larry Long and Jason Mohap singled home Brian Patenaude.

In the top of the eighth inning the Vikings erupted for seven runs. First, Lillash hit his three-run home run to right-center field to give Cleveland State a 4-3 lead. Adam Miller and Jamie Murphy each added a two-run double.

In the ninth inning, Jeff Haase and Miller each knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 10-3. The Terps got two runs back in the bottom of the ninth inning but could draw no closer.

Maryland travels to George Mason on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
