June 22, 2000

College Park, Md.- - The University of Maryland has announced the hiring of Beth Deskins as the new women's basketball administrative assistant effective immediately. Most recently, Deskins was the assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.

A graduate of Coastal Carolina College with a degree in education, Deskins started her professional coaching experience at the high school level at Clover High School in Clover, S.C. During her five-year tenure, she was also a mathematics teacher before heading to West Virginia Wesleyan. Between 1996-98, Deskins earned her masters in business administration, while serving as the graduate assistant coach for women's basketball. In 1998, Deskins headed to Saginaw Valley where she was an assistant coach until her hiring by the University of Maryland.

"The unique experience of Beth having been both a high school teacher and an assistant college coach, while also being very familiar with administrative duties, makes her tremendously qualified for this position. Her past experiences will aid in the development of the administrative assistant position into a true Director of Basketball Operations," said Maryland head coach Chris Weller.
