COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The women's tennis team (5-11, 0-6 ACC) continued to struggle in conference play Wednesday, dropping a 6-1 match to Florida State at Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. The Seminoles, who are ranked No. 61 nationally, improve to 4-3 in the ACC.
The Terps captured two victories, one each at the singles and doubles, against Florida State. Freshman Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) improved her season record to 5-10 and 3-3 in the conference with her win at the No. 5 singles. She defeated Christina Denny in two sets 6-1, 6-2. Earning a win at the No. 3 doubles was freshman duo Olivia Dubovikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France). They downed Marina Raic and Natalie Carratala 8-3.
Maryland returns home on Saturday to wrap up the regular season and conference play. It will face NC State on Saturday and Wake Forest on Sunday. The Wolfpack is currently 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons are currently undefeated in the conference with a 12-6 spring record. They are ranked No. 19 nationally. Matches are slated to begin at noon and will be played at the Cole Field House Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
