COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Senior Chuck Easter (Baltimore, Md.) drove in eight runs in two games as the Maryland baseball swept a doubleheader from Maryland-Eastern Shore, 15-3 and 12-3, Wednesday evening at Shipley Field. Easter tallied three RBIs in the first game and tied a career-high with five RBIs in the nightcap.

In game one, the Terps sent 16 batters to the plate and exploded for 12 runs to put the game out of reach after an inning of play. The 12 runs scored in the first was the biggest inning Maryland has had all season. Sophomore John McCurdy (Crofton, Md.) had the big hit in the inning with a two-run single. The Terps totaled three walks in the inning and were hit by five pitches to lead to the big outburst.

Maryland scored another run in the third and two in the fourth to stretch its lead to 15-0. The Hawks did manage single runs over the final three innings to avoid the shutout.

Maryland starter Todd Ainsworth (Hershey, Pa.) pitched well, allowing no runs on just one hit over three innings. Ainsworth (3-0) fanned three to notch his third victory of the season.

In the second game, Easter went 3-for-3 with a home run and a triple to go along with five runs driven in. Easter, who hit for the cycle just 12 games ago at UMBC, had a chance for another cycle needing just a double, but he walked in his final at-bat.

The Terps scored three in the first and two in the second before putting an eight-spot on the scoreboard in the third.

McCurdy drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 in game two for the Terps.

Terrapin starter Matt Basinger (Connellsville, Pa.) picked up his second win of the season. The Pennsylvania native tossed four innings and allowed three runs on two hits and struck out five to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Maryland returns to the diamond Friday at ACC rival Virginia. The series opener is slated to begin at 3 p.m. in Charlottesville.
