Box Score

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Despite 24 points from senior guard Renneika Razor (New York City, N.Y.), Maryland dropped a 97-66 decision to the Miami Hurricanes in the championship game of the Gatorade Holiday Classic at Miami. The Terps fall to 6-5 on the year entering the conference season, while Miami wins the Classic title and raises its record to 8-3 on the year.

Tournament MVP Meghan Saake hit eight of the Canes' first 12 points as Miami started on a 9-0 run and continued to a 14-2 lead before the Terps mounted a charge. Maryland had a hard time overcoming the deficit in the first half, however, with three Hurricane players in double digits and 19 Terrapin turnovers in the first half.

The Terps tried to close the gap in the second half, battling back to as close as eight points with 9:26 remaining, but Miami proved to be too much and pulled away on the strength of 14 second-half points from Tamara James and 10 from Shaquana Wilkins. The Canes eventually put the game out of reach for the Terps and finished with the 31-point win to close Knight Sports Complex to competition.

In the loss, junior transfer Delvona Oliver (Euclid, Ohio) had another strong effort for the Terrapins in just her second game back, finishing with 12 points and four rebounds. Her 28 tournament points and 13 rebounds over two games nabbed her all-tournament recognition.

Razor was the only other Terrapin voted to the all-tournament team after finishing the night with 24 points and seven steals, which ties her career high and gives her exactly 200 steals in her career.

The Terps travel to NC State on Jan. 2 for a 7 p.m. game vs. the Wolfpack. The game will be the conference opener for Maryland and will be broadcast on WMUC, 88.1 FM in the College Park area and live on the Internet at www.wmucsports.com.
