CHARLESTON, S.C.- Le Moyne second baseman Anthony Aquilino went 4-for-6 with four RBIs to lead the Dolphins to a 16-7 victory over Maryland Friday afternoon at the Charleston Cup Challenge in Charleston, S.C. The Dolphins put nine runs on the scoreboard in the first inning and never trailed the entire game.

Maryland starter Steve Schmoll (Rockville, Md.) surrendered the nine runs in the first as Le Moyne racked up eight hits in the inning. Aquilino did the most damage by smacking a two-run homer and scoring two runs in the frame. The Dolphins totaled four singles, two doubles, a triple and a home run in the first to take control of the game early.

The Terps finally got on track in the third by scoring a pair of runs. Freshman second baseman Joe Sargent (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) doubled to leadoff the inning and later scored when senior rightfielder Matt Swope (New Carrollton, Md.) homered to left center to cut the Dolphin lead to 9-2. The home run was the first of the year for Swope.

Le Moyne added another three runs in the fifth inning to push its lead to 12-2. Aquilino again added the big hit by delivering a two-run single to give the Dolphins a commanding 10-run advantage.

The Terps threatened to have a big inning in the bottom of the fifth, but managed just one run. After a groundout to start the inning, the Terrapins registered three consecutive singles to load the bases. Le Moyne starter Chris Barlow got out of the inning in good shape by giving up just one run on a RBI groundout off the bat of senior catcher Kevin McDonald (Rockaway, N.J.).

Le Moyne added another four runs over the final four innings while the Terps scored one run in the seventh and the eighth and two in the ninth to make the final score 16-7.

Swope tied a career high with four hits (4-for-5) and set a new career best with four runs scored to lead the Maryland attack. Junior shortstop John McCurdy (Crofton, Md.) also had a good day by going 3-for-5 with a stolen base for the Terps.

Barlow (1-0) pitched six innings and allowed just three runs on six hits for his first victory of the season. Schmoll (0-2) was tabbed with the loss as he surrendered nine runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.

Le Moyne improved to 1-0 with the win while the Terps' record is now 2-2. Maryland is back in action tomorrow vs. the College of Charleston at 5 p.m. at Patriots Point Field in Charleston, S.C.
