Women's Basketball Falls At Virginia, 69-58

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Maryland dropped its second straight ACC contest with a 69-58 at Virginia on Sunday at University Hall.

Maryland fell to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers improved to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the league.

"Obviously I thought it was a game of runs," said Maryland head coach Brenda Frese. "(The Virginia players) did a nice job of keeping their composure. Graham did a great job. Virginia has many weapons and so much depth. They can use a lot of combinations."

In the first half, Maryland went ahead by as many as 10 points, 25-15 with 6:50 on the clock. The Cavaliers played catch-up and tied the game at 34-34 at halftime.

In the second half, Virginia took over the lead for good at 8:56 on a three-point play by sophomore Cherrise Graham. UVa built is lead up to nine, 62-53 with 3:52 on the clock, before winning by 11 points.

Senior Renneika Razor paced the Terps with 16 points. On her final bucket with 1:32 to go, Razor scored the 1,000th point of her career. She is the 20th player in Maryland history to eclipse the milestone and now has 1,001 points in her career. Sophomore Anesia Smith added 12 points, while junior Delvona Oliver added eight points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

Graham finished with a career-high 25 points, including a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. Graham currently holds the school record with 18 consecutive made free throws.

Sophomore Brandi Teamer added 13 points off the bench, while fellow sophomore LaTonya Blue notched her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Overall, UVa out-rebounded Maryland, 48-44.

Maryland travels to No. 1 Duke on Thursday, Jan.23 for a 7 p.m. contest. The Terps next home game is set for Monday, Jan. 27 with North Carolina.
