Foster Highlights Day One At Armory Collegiate Invitational

Feb. 13, 2004

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The University of Maryland track and field teams completed day one at the New York Armory Collegiate Invitational Friday night. Highlighting the first day of events was Terrapin sophomore Kierra Foster, who earned first-place honors in the long jump with a leap of 20-05.00. Also having strong performances for Maryland were Toni Jefferson, Harold Manning and Robert Frelow.

After the first day of events, the Maryland women are in sixth place while the men are in 13th.

Foster's leap, just shy of her season-high, was a provisional NCAA qualifying time and she earned the Terrapins their first victory of the meet. Teammate Heather Houston also performed well in the long jump, finishing sixth with a jump of 19-04.25.

Toni Jefferson finished with the eighth-fastest time in the 200-meter dash preliminary heat with a time of 24.51 and will compete in the finals.

For the men's team, Harold Manning had a great performance in the preliminary heat of the 200 meters, finishing with the day's fastest time (21.66). Robert Frelow also performed well, finishing sixth in the 400-meter preliminaries and qualifying for the finals.
