SOUTH BEND, Ind. and FAIRFAX, Va. -
Part of the University of Maryland track teams wrapped up competition at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday in South Bend, Ind., while the other had a day of competition at the Collegiate Open on the campus of George Mason. Terrapin Tia Burley had a great day at the non-team scoring meet in Indiana, as she had a provisional NCAA qualifying mark in the 400 meters.
Burley's time of 54.38 was good for a second-place finish. Kierra Foster, who had a tremendous performance yesterday, continued her strong showing with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.72).
Other Terrapin women with solid performances were Shenae Dawkins (39-06.50, triple jump), Teyarnte' Carter (7.57, 60 meters) and the 4X400 relay team of Foster, Dawkins, Burley and Carter, who had a time of 3:45.78 and a fifth-place finish.
On the men's side, Peter Hess, Florent Groberg and Matt Sanders competed well in the 3000 meters with times of 8:30.90, 8:31.82 and 8:34.00, respectively.
Also leading the Terrapin men was Harold Manning, who finished fourth in the
200 meters with a time of 21.86.
At the Collegiate Open at George Mason, the field events were a strong point for the Terrapins, as John Collins and Bria Johnson both came up with victories.
Johnson placed first in the shot put with a mark of 43-6.50, while Collins was a winner in the weight throw with a mark of 57-7.75.
The track teams return to action next week at the NY Armory Collegiate Meet.
