Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The University of Maryland baseball team fell to James Madison University by a score of 6-4 at Long Field/Mauck Stadium in Harrisonburg, Va. The Terrapins' 10 hits were not enough to overcome Dukes.

James Madison (17-5) got on the board first, scoring two runs against the Terps (9-11) in the bottom of the first inning. Maryland junior Truan Mehl stole two bases after he was hit by a pitch in the second inning, however the Terps were unable to bring him around to score.

In the third inning, Maryland took a 3-2 when sophomore Brian Jarosinski hit a two-run shot over the left field wall. The home run was Jarosinski's 10th of the season. Junior Jason Maxey, who walked, and freshman Dan Melvin, who reached on an error, each came around to score on the play.

After the Dukes had tied the game up in the third, Maxey doubled to right center, scoring junior Kevin Hart to regain the lead for Maryland in the fifth inning. James Madison then retook the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run to go up 6-4.

Maryland began the eighth inning by loading the bases with no outs. The Terrapins were unable to capitalize however, as the next three batters each fell at the hands of James Madison's Jacob Cook.

Each batter in the Terrapins' starting lineup reached base at least once in the game, while sophomore Matt Maropis, Maxey, Buffone and Jarosinski each had a pair of hits. Maryland's catcher, junior Bobby Ryan, threw out two of three attempted base stealers on the day.

Starting on the mound for the Terrapins, junior Chris Bowen struck out five batters without issuing a walk in 5.1 innings of work. Sophomore Ben Pfinsgraff came in to relieve Bowen in the sixth. Pfinsgraff did not allow a hit and struck out three batters in the 2.2 innings he pitched.

The Terrapins will be in action next when they host Duke University at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md., on Friday, March 26, at 7 p.m.
