RALEIGH, N.C. -
Less than a week ago, Maryland earned its first conference win when it topped NC State, 5-2, on Apr. 10. Today the Terps again defeated the Wolfpack, this time advancing the Terps to the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament. The Terrapins will face top-seeded Clemson Friday at 9 a.m. With the 4-0 victory over the Wolfpack, Maryland improved to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in the ACC.
Doubles was no contest for the No. 45-ranked Terrapins. The Terps took all three matches to claim the team doubles point. Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) and Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) blanked State's Barbara Orlay and Kristin Lam, 8-0 in the top doubles spot.
Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomblabreteche, France) fell in line with an 8-4 win over Nandita Chandrasekar and Danielle Stadlemann.
Marianne Baker (Glenelg, Md.) and Neda Mihneva (Sofia, Bulgaria) completed the doubles sweep with and 8-3 win over Jennifer Jassawalla and Agustina Arechavelata in the No. 3 doubles position.
After being named to the 2004 All-ACC team earlier the day, sophomore Ramona But, pounded NC State's Barbara Orlay 6-1, 6-1 in the top singles spot.
Freshman Marianne Baker posted a win in the No. 2 singles spot, defeating Kristin Lam, 6-3, 6-2.
