Day One Results
PHILADELPHIA -
The University of Maryland women's track and field team completed its first day of events at the 2004 Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The Terrapins had six top 20 finishes in the throwing and jumping events.
Kristina Keegan kicked off the meet for the Terrapins by competing in the team's only track event of the day, the 400-meter hurdles. Keegan managed her personal best time of 1:03.38. She also broke this season's former team-best time of 1:05.24. She placed eighth in her heat and 33rd overall.
In jumping events, Heather Houston placed first in the Eastern long jump with a distance of 19-4.75. Kierra Foster placed 10th in the long jump with a distance of 18-10.75. Pole vaulter Zhanna Barer tied for ninth place in the field with a distance of 11-9.75.
The Terrapins saw the majority of its event action in the throwing events. Bria Johnson edged out teammate Labelle Hillgrove in the Eastern shot put with a distance of 42-4. She placed 12th overall, while Hillgrove's distance of 41-6.5 put her in 17th place. Hillgrove also placed 14th in the discus throw, with a mark of 141-6.
