SALEM, Va. - The University of Maryland baseball team powered past Wake Forest University on Tuesday at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium in Salem, Va., by a score of 15-12 The Terps' 15-run performance marks the most runs Maryland has scored in an ACC tournament game.

Maryland (22-32, 5-20 ACC) took control of the game early and held on for their first ACC tournament win since it defeated Duke University, 4-2, in 1999. The victory also marked the Terrapins first win over Wake Forest (17-33, 4-21 ACC) in the tournament since 1988.

Junior Justin Hulse broke Maryland's single-season record for appearances by making his 27th of the season tonight. Hulse came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning to pitch two innings without allowing an earned run. Senior Anthony Buffone tied the Terrapins' record for at bats in a single season by making his 235th of the season in the victory.

The Terrapins started hot at the plate, scoring five runs in the first inning. Sophomore Matt Maropis and senior Anthony Buffone led off the inning with back-to-back singles. The pair came in to score when the Terps' next batter, junior Will Frazier, doubled to right center. Sophomore Brian Jarosinski later knocked in Frazier with a double to right center and then scored when junior Truan Mehl tripled to center field. Mehl came in for the Terrapins' final run of the inning on freshman Dan Melvin's single up the middle.

Maryland continued its prowess at the plate with four runs in the second inning, sparked by a solo shot by Frazier with two outs in the inning. The home run was Frazier's 10th of the season. After junior Kevin Hart singled and junior Jason Maxey was hit by a pitch, Jarosinski brought them both in to score by hitting a towering shot to left center for his 16th home run of the season.

Wake Forest rallied back with six runs in the third inning, but the Terps responded with two more runs in the fourth. Buffone led off the inning with a double and scored later in the inning on a fielding error by the Demon Deacons. Jarosinski recorded an RBI by bringing in Maxey, who walked earlier, with a sacrifice fly to center.

In the sixth inning, the Terps put four additional runs on the scoreboard. Jarosinski, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, came in to score on a Melvin double to right field. Junior Elliot Singletary knocked in Mehl, who reached on a single, with a single to left field. Melvin then scored on a Wake Forest fielding error. Hart brought in Singletary for the Terps' final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Hart started on the mound for the Terps and struck out five batters en route to his third win of the season. Buffone led the Terrapins with four hits and Maropis picked up three hits while scoring one run and knocking in another. Frazier scored three runs and recorded three RBI while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Jarosinski also scored three runs on a pair of hits and collected five RBI as well. Melvin was the other Terrapin batter with multiple RBI in the game, picking up two while stealing a base.

The No. 9 seeded Terrapins will be in action again tomorrow when they meet No. 1 seeded Georgia Tech at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium for a 1:30 p.m. game.
