COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team is holding open tryouts. All full-time students are welcome to take a swing at earning a walk-on spot on the team. Interested athletes should contact assistant coach Michelle Burrell at (301) 405-0521 or mburrell@umd.edu. Terrapin head coach Gina LaMandre returns next spring for her 11th season in College Park. Maryland will return 11 letterwinners from a team that went 33-27 in 2004.
