Terps Conclude Play At Maryland Invitational

Women's Tennis Topples No. 12 Duke, 4-3

Durham, N.C. - The Maryland women's tennis team scored a huge upset on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Duke Blue Devils, 4-3, in Durham, N.C. With the victory the Terps' record stands at 8-10 on the season and 2-5 in ACC play.

The Terps got off to a strong start by taking two of three doubles matches from Duke to take the doubles point, and a 1-0 lead. Tamar Huppes and Neda Mihneva defeated Katie Blaszak and Jackie Carleton, 8-5. Ramona But and Masha Senic topped Lauren Archer and Clelia Deltour, 9-8(8-3).

In singles play, Ramona But cruised past Katie Blaszak, 6-3, 6-2. Marianne Baker defeated Jackie Carleton, 7-5, 7-6, (7-4). Saras Arasu topped Jennifer Dent, 6-0, 6-4. Neda Mihneva fell to Clelia Deltour, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Veronika Subertova defeated Kristin Cargill in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, to clinch the victory for the Terps. In the final match Tory Zawacki topped Julia Graca, 6-2, 6-2.

The win snapped a six match losing streak for the Terps. Maryland will try to make it two victories in a row, when they face the Virginia Cavaliers, on Wednesday afternoon, in Charlottesville, Va.
