COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Adding to her list of postseason honors, Maryland sophomore Shay Doron was named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association/Kodak Honorable Mention All-American, which was recently announced.
A guard, Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) led the team in scoring for the second-consecutive year. She became the first Terrapin in 12 years to be selected Kodak All-Region II earlier this month. She was also voted first team All-ACC, the first Terrapin since 1994 to earn the honor.
Doron's 17.6 points per game this season ranked in the top five in the ACC in scoring. She was also among the top 15 in the conference in free throw percentage, assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. Her 562 points set the school's sophomore class record and was the fourth-most single-season total in school history. She tied the single-game scoring record, tallying 39 points at Florida State, five days after recording 37 in the upset-victory over North Carolina.
Doron and the Terps were 22-10 this season, recording the most wins since 1992-93, spending 17 consecutive weeks in the Associated Pres top 25. Maryland reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year, while reaching the ACC Tournament semifinals for the second-year in a row, as well.
