May 9, 2005

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Terrapin softball player Lindsay Klein was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week after leading the Terrapins to three victories last week as they wrapped up their regular season schedule.

Klein batted .556 (5-for-9) at the plate tallying five RBIs and five runs scored. She registered a 1.333 slugging percentage collecting two doubles, a triple and a home run while drawing three walks during those four games.

In a doubleheader vs. Delaware, the sophomore first baseman hit for the cycle over the two games going 4-for-5 at the plate including four runs batted in and three runs scored. Her towering blast to center field was her team-high fifth home run of the year.

Against George Mason, the Orange, Calif., native drew two walks in three attempts in game one. Klein then finished the weekend with a double, an RBI and two runs scored as Maryland completed the sweep of the Patriots with a 7-0 win in game two.

It is the first ACC Player of the Week honor for Klein, and the first for the Terrapins this season.

Maryland begins its quest for an ACC Tournament title on Thursday, May 12, when the conference championship begins at the Terrapin Softball Complex. The sixth-seeded Terrapins will take on No. 3 seed Virginia in the first round at 5 p.m.
