Kovacs, Malanina Invited to NCAA Championships

College Park, Md. - Senior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) will wrap up her final season as a Terp by swimming in the NCAA Championship meet, which will be held March 16-18 in Athens, Ga. Kovacs will be joined by her teammate, junior Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia). Both qualified in multiple events.

Malanina will be the eighth overall seed in the 400 IM thanks to her 4:14.77 swim in the ACC Championships. The race earned her a gold medal in the conference championship. Forty swimmers qualified for the NCAA championship in the event.

Malanina will also swim in the 200 IM, where she will be the 35th seed thanks to a time of 2:01.54. That time earned her a silver medal at the ACC Championships.

Both Terrapin swimmers will participate in the 200 breast. Kovacs will be the 20th seed thanks to her silver medal performance in the ACC Championship, where she swam a 2:14.35. Malanina will take off from the 34th position, having earned her trip with a swim of 2:15.56.

Kovacs just missed the top 10 in the 100 breast. She will be the 11th seed in the event thanks to an ACC Championship swim of 1:01.78. The time earned her another silver medal at the conference championship meet.

Competition in the NCAA Championships will get underway on March 16 from the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
