WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Maryland Terrapins (17-24, 6-16 ACC) fell to No. 24 Wake Forest, 15-4, on Friday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. The Demon Deacons tied the game up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh before erupting for 11 runs in the eighth en route to their fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference victory.

After allowing one man to score on a single to center by Evan Ocheltree in the seventh, starter Casey Baron was relieved by Seth Overbey with two on and one out. Shortstop Dustin Hood then drove in the tying run on a fielder's choice before Brett Cecil entered to get Allan Dykstra on a flyball center and end the rally.

With one down in the eighth, second baseman Andy Goff gave Wake its first lead of the game on a two-run single through a drawn-in infield. Ocheltree drove in two more on a single and Hood made it 9-4 on a base hit to left off Cecil (4-5). Righty Joe Zaccaria came on with two away and the bases loaded and and proceeded to allow all three inherited runners to score on a Brendan Enick two-run single and three-run homer by Tyler Smith. Goff capped the scoring with an RBI base hit to left as the Deacons assumed a commanding 15-4 advantage.

Cecil was charged with eight runs in the inning while three went to Zaccaria.

At the plate, catcher Chad Durakis led the way for the Terps with a season-high three hits in three at-bats and one RBI. Second baseman Joe Palumbo went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. For Wake, Kyle Young (4-1) earnd the victory by throwing three scoreless innings to finish the game.

The Terps struck early, scoring three times in the top of the first. After Matt Maropis singled and Gerry Spessard was hit by a pitch, first baseman Jordan Wilson drove the pair in on a two-out double to left. Durakis followed with an RBI base hit to make it 3-0, Maryland.

Wake would cut into the Terp lead in the fourth. With runners on second on third, catcher Dan Rosaia dropped a two-run single into center against Baron to bring the Demon Deacons closer at 3-2.

Palumbo led off the seventh with a double down the right field line and Nick Jowers singled to give the Terps runners on the corners with none down. Facing the new pitcher Young, Maropis grounded into a double play that scored Palumbo, bumping the Maryland advantage to two at that point.

Maryland and Wake Forest will square off tomorrow afternoon in the second of a three-game set at 1 p.m. Terp right-hander Ben Pfinsgraff will get the nod on the hill against lefty Eric Niesen.
