Former Maryland Terrapin baseball player Justin Maxwell was recently featured in the Washington Post for his performance in the Washington Nationals' organization. Below is the excerpt from the Wednesday, May 23 edition of the Post:
"While the focus of Class A Hagerstown is on last year's first-round pick Chris Marrero (.311, 10 homers, 40 RBI in 39 games), CF Justin Maxwell (Sherwood) is impressing as well. As a leadoff man, Maxwell has 11 homers already, driving in 27 runs with a team-high .950 on-base-plus-slugging percentage. "He could be special," General Manager Jim Bowden said. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound University of Maryland product, 23, could be a candidate to move to high-Class A Potomac later in the summer."
Maxwell was a fourth-round draft pick by the Nationals in 2005 . A two-time preseason All-America selection, he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's best athlete and defensive outfielder according to Baseball America magazine heading into 2005.
