Rogus Posts Fifth-Place Finish at Day One of ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Four Terrapins posted top-ten finishes during day one of the ACC Indoor Championships today. Led by Katie Rogus, who placed fifth in the pentathlon, the Terrapin women closed the first day of competition tied for fourth place with eight total points. Sal Delhierro led the Maryland men, who finished the day in fifth place, with three total points.

Rogus scored 3704 total points in the event, earning 773 points with her first-place finish in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:23.78 and 697 points after she placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18-00.25. Christina Smith finished eighth in the event, earning 3,455 points. Smith placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.03, which earned her 1,025 points. The senior also finished second in the shot put with a mark of 41-0.50 and tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.00.

In the weight throw, Jillian Anwah finished sixth with a throw of 58-1.75. Teammate Aysha Gregory had a throw of 52-04 to finish 11th, Kristen Batts placed 15th with a mark of 47-11.75 and Katelyn Poss threw for 47-1.5 to finish 16th.

On the men's side, Sal Delhierro finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 52-01.25.

The 2008 ACC Indoor Championships will resume tomorrow at noon with the men's and women's long jump. Jason Allen will compete in the event for the men, hoping to improve upon his eighth-place finish at last year's Championships. For the Terrapin women, Toni Aluko, who placed fifth in the event last year will open up the day.

Also for the Terps, seniors Dominic Berger and Aluko will look to defend their ACC Championships when they compete in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump, respectively. Berger hopes to capture his fifth consecutive ACC Championship, while Aluko is looking for her second-career ACC win.
