Terps Capture Division Title at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Maryland men's 4x400-meter relay squad won the IC4A division of the event to highlight Terrapin performances this weekend at the Penn Relays, held at historic Franklin Field.

The Terrapins ran a time of 3:09.93 in the trials, then went 3:11.62 in the finals to earn the victory over other teams in the IC4A division. Jeremy Samuels, Anthony Walker, Kyle Rauser and Sean Lowe ran the faster mark in the prelims.

Also for Maryland, David Edwards-Brennan finished fourth in the men's high jump at 6-8.25, while Sal Delhierro had a season-best mark of 55-0.25 in the men's shot put.

On the women's side, the foursome of Libby Babcock, Erin Matyus, Christina Nelson and Kelley Pry set a school record in the 4x800 relay at 8:54.45, finishing third in the event.

Senior Toni Aluko finished fourth in the championship division of the women's high jump with a season-best 5-8.75. She also had an eight-place finish in the women's triple jump.

Some Maryland athletes will travel to the George Mason Invitational next weekend, while others will continue preparation for postseason action by training for the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Princeton.

Terrapin Notes

  • The sprint medley relay squad of Dominic Berger, Earl Gray, Kyle Rauser, and Tommy Friscia had a strong run in this event finishing in a time of 3:25.99.
  • The 4x800m relay squad competed well and placed within the top 10 in a time of 7:35.24. Zach Martinez, Josh Davis, Kyle Rauser, and Tommy Friscia all contributed to this finish.
  • The women's 4x400m relay squad had a good showing in both the trials and finals of this event. Their time of 3:43.21 qualified them for the ECAC section on Friday where they ran 3:46.06. Kiani Profit, Crystal Bardge, Tolu Olugbemi, and Michelle Fedrick all ran strong legs.
  • The women's sprint medley relay team had a good showing, finishing in the top ten with a time of 3:57.19. Christina Smith, Heidi Paul, Chanel Williams and Kelley Pry all ran a competitive race.
  • The women's 4x100m relay team of Chanel Williams, Michelle Fedrick, Crystal Bardge and Heidi Paul were able to advance to the finals in this event running a time of 46.74 in the trials and 46.07 in the finals.
  • Jillian Anwah advanced her NCAA Regional mark in the shot put with a personal-best performance of 48-9.25 to place 3rd in the championship section.
