COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior Jen Vogel capped the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship with a title in the 200 fly Saturday night to help lead the Terps to a fifth-place finish at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.

Vogel defeated ACC record-holder Megan Evo from Virginia in come-from-behind fashion to give Maryland its first individual title of the championships. The junior from Hingham, Mass., tallied a school record with the performance (1:55.81), her fifth of the meet.

Patty DeScenza finished fifth in the 200 fly, securing an NCAA B-cut time (1:58.62) in the process. Freshman Alexa Hamilton captured an NCAA B-cut tenth-place finish (2:15.42) in the 200 breast. Senior Yelena Skalinskaya put an exclamation point on her final ACC Championships with a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (49.64), just short of the school record. Sophomore Annie Fittin came in 11th (50.10) and junior Laura Wright took 13th (50.29) to round out Maryland's participation in the 100 free.

Freshman Ginny Glover continued to shine for the Terps, racking up an NCAA B-cut seventh place finish in the 200 back (1:57.07). The Terps ended the meet as it began, with a school-record relay finish as the 400 free relay (Skalinskaya, Fittin, Wright, and Glover) took fourth with an NCAA B-cut time of 3:18.65.

"We were just on fire all seven sessions this week and we were able to beat people to the wall," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "To have our two captains (DeScenza and Vogel) in that final heat was just awesome. Jen ran a smart race and wasn't going to be denied the win...she ran down a great swimmer in Megan (Evo)."

On the meet, Maryland shattered ten school records and registered 16 NCAA B-cut times. The Terps' fifth-place finish (332 points) is its highest since 2005-06. Maryland finished ninth a year ago. Virginia claimed its seventh championship.
