COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland has been selected to host the 2010 NCAA Field Hockey Championship, which will be held Nov. 19-21, 2010, at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
The 2010 NCAA Field Hockey Championship will mark the second time that Maryland has played host to the event, having done so in 2007 when North Carolina upended Penn State. The 2010 tournament also marks the 30th anniversary of the Division I field hockey championship.
"Hosting the NCAA Field Hockey Championship is a tribute to our facilities here at Maryland and the large community of hockey players in the area," Maryland head coach Missy Meharg said. "We first hosted the Final Four in 2007 and we intend to take the event to a new level in 2010. With so many hockey enthusiasts in the Mid-Atlantic region, it will be celebration of great hockey and amazing female athletes.
"I am grateful to our administration for supporting the event here in College Park."
The Terrapins have appeared in field hockey's Final Four 12 times, including seven times this decade, and have claimed six national titles.
Tickets for the event will not go on sale until next summer.
