CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Maryland held a 4-2 lead over Boston College with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but a two-run home run by Mickey Wiswall sent it to extras and Rob Moir's RBI single in the 10th gave the Eagles a 5-4 win Saturday afternoon.

The Terps were a perfect 11-0 this season when leading after the eighth inning, and looked to be in good position to get the win with ace closer Dan Gentzler on the mound. The senior relieved John Dischert to record the final out of the eighth and was one out away from recording his seventh save of the season.

But Boston College's Brad Zapenas put the Eagles in position to tie it by leading off the ninth with a single. After a flyout and a groundout, Wiswall hit a 1-0 offering over the center field wall to tie it.

Boston College quickly loaded the bases in the 10th on a walk, an error and an intentional walk, and Moir's pinch-hit single through the right side gave the Eagles the stunning win.

Genztler (1-2) gave up three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 and took the loss.

Eagles pitcher Kevin Moran (3-4) pitched 2 2/3 and allowed one unearned run on three hits in the win.

Maryland had taken the lead in the sixth inning, sparked by David Poutier's solo home run. Brandon Padula singled and later scored on Matt Marquis' two-out single through the right side, giving the Terps a 3-2 advantage.

Reliever John Dischert baffled Boston College batters from the fifth inning until he exited with two outs in the eighth. The senior struck out five while walking just one and didn't allow a hit in 3 1/3.

The Terps added a run in the top of the ninth to take a 4-2 lead. Matt Marquis singled to open the inning and advanced to second base when Boston College (15-15, 6-8 ACC) left fielder Philip Miclat mishandled the ball. After Gary Schneider flew out, Jack Cleary grounded out to shortstop and Marquis advanced to third. As Marquis rounded third, Wiswall, the Eagles first baseman, threw to third in an attempt to pickoff Marquis. But the throw went into left field, allowing Marquis to score.

The lead wouldn't be enough, as Maryland fell to 12-21 overall and 3-11 in the ACC.

The Terps had gotten off to a good start, opening the scoring in the first inning. Alfredo Rodriguez and Poutier led off the game with consecutive singles, with Poutier's base-knock moving Rodriguez to third. Brandon Padula grounded out to shortstop, but it was deep enough for Rodriguez to score and give Maryland a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles' Anthony Melchionda led off the third inning with a triple and scored on Andrew Lawrence's double down the right field line, tying the game at 1-1. Lawrence advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from Robbie Anston, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Poutier led the Terps with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Padula and Marquis had two-hit games.

Maryland and Boston College play the last of the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
