WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Maryland women's tennis team kicks off its 2010-2011 campaign this weekend at the William & Mary Invitational.

Junior Jordan Hansbrough, senior Julia Huschke, sophomore Burce Kurkan, and redshirt sophomore Eleonore Paillaud will represent the Terps this weekend.

Hansbrough, Huschke, and Kurkan all saw significant action for Maryland last season. Huschke saw most action last season at No. 3 singles, while Hansbrough played mostly at No. 4, and Kurkan at No. 6.

Huschke is the Terps only senior this season.

Hansbrough posted a team best 14-15 overall record in singles last season and ended the year on a four-match winning streak.

"We have some very fine players this year," said head coach Howard Joffe. "I'm sure the four that will play this weekend will acquit themselves very well."

Hansbrough won her first round match Friday morning, knocking off Virginia's Rashmi Teltumbde 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in Flight B. Kurkan received a bye in the first round of Flight E. Both will move on in the winner's bracket this afternoon.

Huschke lost her first match to Virginia Tech's Yasmine Hamza 6-3, 6-1 in Flight A. She will move on to third round play in the consolation bracket Saturday afternoon after her second-round opponent withdrew.

In doubles, Huschke and Hansbrough dropped their first match to Virginia's Emily Fraser and Hana Tomljanovic 8-2. They will face William & Mary's Anik Cepeda and Jeltje Loomans Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Kurkan also saw doubles action playing in Flight C with VCU's Pietzuch. They won their first game 8-2 and will play again Saturday at 9 a.m.
