COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland wrestling team opens Atlantic Coast Conference action Sunday at 2 p.m. as they host the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies at the Comcast Pavilion in College Park, Md.

"Tomorrow is a huge match for us," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "Any cliché you want to put on it, it is a huge match. More importantly, it is an opportunity to wrestle a conference foe. Conference seeding and the unofficial dual crown are on the line. Coming off of [Maryland's 19-12 win over Navy], we want to build some momentum and keep the ball rolling."

The Terps finished the 2010 season undefeated in the ACC and fell just short of its third-straight conference championship. Though Maryland lost its trio of 2010 ACC championship wrestlers, the team returns 2008 champ Jon Kohler and a number of grapplers vying for post-season play.

In the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll, Virginia Tech received the third-most votes behind just Cornell and Penn State. Ranked 16th by Intermat, the Hokies have seven wrestlers ranked in the top-20 and three in the top-10 including No. 5 Jesse Dong, who defeated Maryland's Kyle John in the ACC Championship last season.

Following Sunday's conference-opener, the Terps will continue ACC action at home against the North Carolina Tar Heels and Virginia Cavaliers on Jan. 29 and Feb. 11, respectively.
