COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland wrestling team travels north this weekend to take on three teams in two days, as they meet Boston and Harvard on Friday before squaring off against Brown on Saturday.
The Terps (5-3) travel to Boston, Mass., to take on the Boston Terriers at noon Friday before heading to nearby Cambridge to challenge the Crimson of Harvard at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Maryland will face off against Brown in Providence, R.I., at noon.
"I'm looking forward to this weekend, but I think our guys are even more eager than I am," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "The matches this weekend will be challenging and we have to be ready. This is how we begin building our peak to the post season, so we have to start off strong."
Boston enters the weekend at 2-3 in dual meets, with its last meet resulting in a 32-12 loss to No. 13 Iowa State on Nov. 11. Most recently, the Terriers sent 10 wrestlers to the Nittany Lion Open on Dec. 5 when freshman Nestor Taffur earned sixth place at 149 pounds.
Despite its 0-3 dual record, Harvard remains a challenging opponent with a pair of top-20 wrestlers expected to compete this weekend. At 149 pounds, No. 17 Corey Jantzen enters his match-up against Maryland with a 2-2 record against top-15 opponents. Wrestling at 157 pounds, No. 11 Walt Peppelman is 12-4 on the season with three first-period pins.
Before taking on Maryland on Saturday, Brown will host Rutgers in its first dual meet of the season. The Bears have competed in several tournaments thus far, including the Bearcat Open, Keystone Classic and Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Following this weekend's action, the Terps will travel to Lower Dauphin, Pa., to meet the Bucknell Bison on Jan. 15. Maryland opens a four-match homestand with Navy on Jan. 22.
