INDIANAPOLIS -
After representing the Maryland women's tennis team in the NCAA Championship next week, junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and freshman Jordaan Sanford will play in the national singles and doubles competition.
Sanchez-Quintanar was an at-large selection in both the 64-person NCAA singles field and 32-tandem doubles bracket Wednesday, one day after the Terrapins were selected for the team draw for the first time in five years. Sanchez-Quintanar will be joined in doubles by Sanford.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., following the conclusion of the team championship which runs May 20-24.
Playing at the No. 1 position since joining the team in January, Sanchez-Quintanar has posted a 16-4 dual singles mark and is ranked 30th in the nation for No. 33 Maryland (13-9).
Sanchez-Quintanar and Sanford are ranked No. 26 in the country in doubles and have posted an 18-4 record on the dual season.
Ramona But was the last Terp invited to play in both the NCAA Women's Singles and Doubles Championships, making an appearance in 2006. Marianne Baker joined But and the duo reached the round of 16.
