Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Maryland volleyball team fell to Wake Forest 3-1 (25-15, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23) Saturday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium.

Sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher led the Terps (10-8, 2-5 ACC) with 15 kills and added 17 digs for her second double-double of the season. Sophomore Adreené Elliott totaled 12 kills while sophomore Catie Coyle tallied a career-high 10 kills.

Freshman Mackenzie Dagostino notched her team-high seventh double-double with 25 assists and 11 digs. Junior Sarah Harper had a Maryland season-high 22 digs.

The Demon Deacons seized the momentum right out of the gate. Wake Forest opened the match on a 9-2 run and did not allow the Terps to get closer than six points on their way to a 25-15 victory in the opening frame.

The Terps got the offense going in the second set. As a team, Maryland converted 41.9 percent of its attack opportunities led by Crutcher. Crutcher totaled five kills on 10 chances and senior Remy McBain added four kills.

A Demon Deacon kill cut the Maryland lead to one point early in the second frame, but kills from freshman Emily Fraik and McBain, and a service ace from Dagostino increased the Terps lead to 12-8. Following a Wake Forest timeout, the Terps scored four of the next five points to take control of the set. Maryland closed the frame with two kills from Crutcher and a kill from Coyle.

The Terps out hit the Demon Deacons in the third set, .200 to .143, but Wake Forest managed to escape with the win. Coyle and Elliott each tallied four kills during the frame.

The Terps opened the set in strong fashion by scoring nine of the first 12 points, which forced Wake Forest to call a timeout. After the break, the Demon Deacons came storming back. The Deacs outscored the Terrapins 13-7 during the stretch to tie the set at 16.

A Fraik kill and two Wake Forest errors put Maryland back up by three, but Wake Forest scored five consecutive points to gain control of the set late.

The final set featured 14 ties and lead changes with the Demon Deacons able to do just enough to hold off the Terps. Again Maryland out hit Wake Forest with the Terps totaling 18 kills on a .233 hitting percentage to the Demon Deacons 11 kills on a .205 hitting percentage.

Maryland recovered from a 13-7 deficit to tie the set at 16 after a kill from Crutcher. The Terps took the lead at 18-17 following another Crutcher kill. The lead was short-lived as Wake Forest scored the next three points. Maryland battled back once again and tied the set on three separate occasions and took a 23-22 lead following a Wake Forest attacking error. After a Demon Deacon timeout, Wake scored the final three points of the match to close it out.
