Box Score

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite a team-high 12 kills from Mary Cushman, the Maryland volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) to No. 11 Florida State Friday night at Tully Gymnasium. Amy Dion chipped in with a match-high 13 digs for the Terps in the loss.

Ashleigh Crutcher and Adreené Elliott had eight and seven kills, respectively. Mackenzie Dagostino had a team-best 17 assists, while Remy McBain dished out 16.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 3-0 lead to open the first set, but two kills from Elliott sandwiched between two Terrapin blocks cut the deficit to one at 5-4. The Seminoles gradually increased their lead eventually earning a 17-11 advantage.

The Terps (16-14, 7-11 ACC) did not give in as they rattled off seven of the next 10 points. During the run, five different Terps tallied a kill led by two apiece from Cushman and Elliott. Maryland was unable to overcome the deficit as Florida State held off the Terrapin charge and took the opening set 25-21.

The Noles again started quickly in the second set. FSU scored the first four points of the set and grew its lead to five points at 8-3 before Maryland took a timeout. Maryland responded with a 3-1 run punctuated by a block from Cushman and Kelsey Hrebenach, who finished with four blocks, to trim the Seminole lead to three.

Florida State scored six of the next nine points to take control of the set. The Seminoles went up 21-11 late in the set and went on to win 25-15.

After intermission, a kill from Cushman and a block from Hrebenach and McBain gave Maryland a 6-4 lead in the third set. It would not last long as Florida State scored 13 of the next 17 points to seize the momentum. Maryland cut the lead to 22-18, but the Seminoles held off the late rally to win the set 25-19.

The Terps close their road trip Sunday at 1 p.m. against Miami in Coral Gables.
