ORLANDO, Fla. -
Taking advantage of warm weather during Spring Break, the University of Maryland track and field teams will cap a week of training with a weekend of competition at the UCF Invitational.
The meet will begin on Friday at noon with field events, with Saturday's schedule starting at 9 a.m.
Maryland will be one of 28 teams in the field, which includes a number of ranked teams also making their outdoor-season debut. Four men's teams and four women's teams were in the preseason top 25 posted by the U.S. Track and Field / Cross Country Coaches Association.
The outdoor season for the Terrapins will feature the return of three-time All-American Kiani Profit. The Maryland senior has one outdoor season of eligibility remaining in a stellar career. She is the school record-holder in the heptathlon, in which she finished second in the nation at the 2010 NCAA Nationals.
Seniors Floyd Hawkes and Zack Ray will lead the Maryland men's team into the outdoor season. Hawkes is a veteran sprinter for the Terrapins, while Ray is expected to compete in the hurdles and the long jump.
