The Maryland volleyball team returns to Comcast Pavilion this weekend for a pair of matches against Virginia foes. The Terps play host to Virginia Tech on Friday at 7 p.m., and close the weekend against Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Terps converted 29.9 percent of their attack opportunities and got a double-double from junior Mary Cushman to defeat the Clemson Tigers in three sets on Friday. Cushman knocked down a match-high 13 kills and added 10 digs. Sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher finished with 12 kills, while freshman Kamrin Gold added 10.
Sunday in Atlanta, Maryland fell to Georgia Tech in three sets. Crutcher and Cushman each had six kills. Gold knocked down five.
What's Next
Maryland travels to Durham, N.C., to take on Duke on Friday, Oct. 5 and heads to Wake Forest the next night to face the Demon Deacons.
The Duke match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve. The Terps and Demon Deacons will start at 5 p.m. on Oct. 6.

Scouting the Terps
Sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher continues to lead the Terps in kills with 158. The Raleigh, N.C., native is averaging 3.29 per set. Crutcher has had seven matches with double-digit kills.
Sophomore Adreené Elliott is second on the team in kills (130), but boasts a team-high .407 hitting percentage which ranks fourth in the ACC and 21st nationally.
With a 6.21 assists per set average, senior Remy McBain is ranked 10th in the conference. Of Maryland's 604 assists, McBain (298) and freshman Mackenzie Dagostino (246) have combined for 544 of them.
Elliott is fourth in the ACC averaging 1.23 blocks per set. The sophomore leads the team with 18 solo blocks and 41 assisted blocks. As a team, the Terps are sixth in the league averaging 2.34 per set.
Junior Sarah Harper is eighth in the conference averaging 3.88 digs per set. On the season, Harper has 186 digs.
Scouting the Hokies
The Hokies took No. 14 Florida State to five sets Friday night and rebounded with a three-set victory over Miami on Sunday.
The Hokies possess one of the most potent attacks in the nation. Coming into the matchup with the Terps, Virginia Tech ranks 13th in hitting percentage (.291) and 44th in kills per set (14.00) nationally. In the ACC, the squad ranks first and third in those categories, respectively.
Nationally, Cara Baarendse, Victoria Hamsher and Kathryn Caine all rank in the top 35 in the hitting percentage. Baarendse is converting 43.1 percent of her attack opportunities which ranks second in the ACC and 13th in the country. Hamsher is right behind Baarendse with a .413 hitting percentage. Hamsher is third in the conference and 15th nationally. Caine completes the trio with a .389 hitting percentage which ranks fifth in the league and 34th in the nation.
Jordan Fish's 11.59 assists per set average ranks 17th among Division I schools and is the best in the ACC.
Defensively, Morgan O'Neill is seventh in the ACC with a 4.10 digs per set average.
Scouting the Cavaliers
The Cavaliers enter the weekend on the back of a three-set loss to Miami and a 3-1 defeat to No. 14 Florida State in Charlottesville. Virginia will play at Boston College before its faces Maryland on Sunday.
Tori Janowski is the Cavs top hitter. Janowski is averaging 3.27 kills per set. As a team, Virginia ranks 12th in the ACC in kills per set (12.20), hitting percentage (.167) and opponent hitting percentage (.227).
Virginia utilizes two setters. Rachel Gray is averaging 5.30 assists per set, while Janowski is averaging 4.91 per set.
The Cavaliers are fourth in the ACC in service aces. The squad is averaging 1.31 per set led by Janowski who is averaging 0.31 per set.
Emily Rottman is averaging 4.13 digs per set which ranks sixth in the ACC.
Series History
The Terps have won 10 of 18 meetings with the Hokies. Virginia Tech won both meetings last season including the matchup in College Park which went five sets. Maryland has won two of the last three home meetings including the Terps last win over the Hokies, which came on Oct. 8, 2010 in three sets.
Maryland is 34-21 all-time against Virginia. The Terps and Cavaliers split the two meetings last season with each squad winning at home. Under head coach Tim Horsmon, Maryland is 2-5 against Virginia.

Tim Horsmon is in his fifth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team. With the Terps' victory over Villanova on Aug. 24, Horsmon won his 50th career game at Maryland.
With Maryland's win over Clemson on Friday, Horsmon now has 283 career wins.
Honored Terps
The Terps wrapped up their pre-conference tournament schedule at LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 14-15. Sophomore Adreené Elliott came away with the highest honors. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native was voted the MVP of both the Villanova Classic and Blackbird Invitational as well as earning a spot on the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills All-Tournament team.
At the Blackbird Invitational, Elliott tallied 31 kills and 23 total blocks including a career-high eight total blocks against St. John's. Elliott tied the mark with another eight total blocks against LIU Brooklyn the following night.
In three matches at the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Invitational, Elliott finished with 32 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. In the win over George Washington, Elliott had a career-high .619 hitting percentage.
Elliott took home MVP honors at the Villanova Classic to open the season. In three matches, she tallied 26 kills and 13 total blocks. Elliott finished the weekend with a .353 hitting percentage.
Junior Sarah Harper and freshman Kamrin Gold joined Elliott on the Villanova Classic All-Tournament team. Harper finished with 49 digs, while Gold tallied 18 kills including 11 against Robert Morris.
With 54 kills at the Maryland Invitational, sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher earned a spot on the Maryland Invitational All-Tournament team. Crutcher leads the Terps in kills with 158.
Junior Mary Cushman and Gold earned spots on the Blackbird Invitational All-Tournament team. In three matches, Cushman finished with 28 kills, 13 digs and six total blocks. Cushman had a season-high .480 hitting percentage against St. John's. Gold completed the weekend with 25 kills and 16 digs.
Record Watch
With her performance at the Blackbird Invitational, sophomore Adreené Elliott leapt to No. 6 all-time in career hitting percentage. Elliott is currently hitting .299 for her career. Rachel Wagener holds the all-time record with a career .341 hitting percentage.
For the season, Elliott is converting 40.7 percent of her attack opportunities. On her current pace, Elliott would become Maryland's single-season hitting percentage record holder.
On the defensive side of the net, Elliott is three solo blocks shy of moving past Carey Brennan into 10th in program history. Elliott has 47 career solo blocks.
Junior Sarah Harper moved past Maria DiLivio (1,002) into eighth all-time in Maryland history in digs against LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 15. With 1,032 digs, Harper trails Bethany Springer by 172 digs for seventh all-time.
Senior Remy McBain ranks fifth in program history with 2,942 assists. She trails Aimee Huddleston by 628 assists for fourth all-time.
Fresh Faces
The Terps welcomed seven newcomers to the squad this season. The seven-member class was given highest honorable mention honors by PrepVolleyball.com.
So far this season, all seven freshmen have seen action for the Terps, which is the most in the ACC.
Mackenzie Dagostino and Kamrin Gold have been staples in the Terrapin attack. Dagostino is averaging 5.12 assists per set, while Gold is averaging 2.42 kills per set.
Emily Fraik burst onto the scene in the team's season opener against Villanova. Fraik tallied seven kills and six digs in a three-set win over the Wildcats.
