2002 Update:
• Captain along with Mike LaMonica, Mike Morsell & Nate Watkins.
• Drew first career start on Senior Night vs. Yale (4/26).
• Played in all 13 games on close defense and man-down unit, Terps have allowed just 20 EMG on 65 chances (30.8 pct).
On Burman: Serving as one of four team captains along with Mike LaMonica, Mike Morsell and Nate Watkins … a hard working defenseman with great character … a team leader "made with the right stuff" according to Cottle … excellent man-down specialist, who contributed to one of the nation's best units last season … will also see time as a backup longpole in even-man situations … won the "Be The Best Award" along with Ryan Moran as the team's hard working players in the weightroom …
As a junior (2001): Played in all 16 games as a man-down defensive specialist … along with graduated Brian Kingsbury, came on to help Maryland's man-down unit to the nation's third best percentage, killing off 77 of 94 opportunities (71.9 percent) … the unit began the year on fire by killing off the first 13 penalties and 27 of 29 penalties without a goal … allowed Duke (3/4) to score just one goal on 16 extra-man chances … scooped up seven groundballs … member of the Maryland Honor Roll.
As a sophomore (2000): Played in five games as a reserve defenseman … saw action in the first three games of the season against Mount St. Mary's (2/27), Duke (3/4) and Bucknell (3/7) … corralled first career groundball against Delaware (3/15) … also played vs. UMBC (5/6).
As a freshman (1999): Missed much of freshman season after suffering torn hamstring and a separated shoulder … played in just one game, vs. Providence (2/27).
Before Maryland: Two-sport athlete at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md. … lettered in lacrosse three times under Rob Bradley … captained lacrosse team as a senior … named regional all-star and All-Met honorable mention as a senior …recorded amazing 23 points as a defenseman … won three IAC conference championships … compiled 49-7 record over three years of lacrosse … two-time letterwinner in football at defensive end … all-league, all-state and All-Met honorable mention as a senior in football … won two IAC championships in football.
Personal: Andrew Clarkson Burman … born July 14, 1979 in Washington, D.C. … son of Molly and Ken Burman … brother of Ed (28), Steve (24), Dave (21) and Emily (18) … brother Dave is a junior defenseman at ACC rival Virginia … brother Steve also played lacrosse at Bucknell and Virginia … one of five Terps, who played high school ball at Landon … majoring in government & politics.
