LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - In the first collegiate competition of his career, University of Maryland freshman Adam Whitesell finished fourth at the Mat Town Open Sunday afternoon.
Competing at 133 pounds, Whitesell dropped his opening contest before notching two victories in the consolation bracket to finish fourth. Dawson Peck, Jacob Trybus and Garrett Wesneski also competed at the event.
Eventual runner-up Bryan Lantry of Buffalo defeated Whitesell 10-6 in the opening bout. Whitesell would stay alive in the tournament with a 5-4 win over Scott Stevens of Franklin & Marshall.
Whitesell advanced to the third-place match with a 10-6 win over Buffalo's Blake Retell. The Terp freshman would fall 10-7 to Franklin and Marshall's Patrick Quinlan to finish fourth.
