Amato Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland senior goalie Niko Amato has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference.

Amato made 11 saves in a 16-8 win at No. 2/1 Syracuse on Feb. 22 while helping to hold a  dynamic Syracuse offense to 10 goals below its season average. Included in his 11 saves were two on key non-releasable penalties on Maryland. Amato gave up goals on two of Syracuse's first three shots, but only allowed three more goals in a span of 37:44. The Orange's final three goals came when the game was out of reach for the Orange as Maryland held a 16-5 lead.

Duke senior attackman Jordan Wolf, who totaled 10 points on seven goals and three assists to lead the Blue Devils to a pair of wins last week, was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

No. 2 Maryland hosts No. 1 Duke on Saturday, March 1 at noon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. The game will be streamed live on TerpsTV. Click here for more information on subscribing to TerpsTV.
