COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team won 4-of-6 singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over Harvard at the Tennis Center at College Park Saturday afternoon.
The Terps (4-4) started off strong, taking the doubles point with a sweep. The squad then picked up wins in the bottom four singles slots to take the victory.
"It was a great team performance," head coach Daria Panova said. "The girls implemented everything we were working on and I'm very proud of them."
Senior Welma Luus and sophomore Alexandra Stanova put Maryland on track to the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Monica Lin and Ellen Jang-Milsten. Freshman Ekaterina Tour and sophomore Kristina Hovsepyan put the doubles tally away, defeating Nikki Kallenberg and Annika Ringblom, 8-7.
Luus was on the front foot in singles, downing Jang-Milsten 6-4, 6-3. Nataliya Bredikhina put the Terps up 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ringblom.
Olivia Gaudreault put the match away for Maryland with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sylvia Li. Olga Bredikhina also picked up a win for the Terrapins.
Maryland returns to action tomorrow against Cornell. Action is scheduled to begin at noon at the Tennis Center at College Park.
