
Terps Nab Six Titles at Messiah Open Saturday

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Maryland wrestling team tallied six titles in a dominant showing at the Messiah Open Saturday.
Overall the Terps placed 15 competitors. Freshman standout Alfred Bannister rolled to his title at 141, using three pins to advance to the finals before winning the championship through disqualification. Freshman Brandon Walker also placed well at the weight, taking sixth.
Redshirt freshman Daniel Sanchez was almost as quick with his work at 149, nabbing a pair of falls before topping fellow Terp RJ DeGeorge 4-0 in the finals. Freshman Matt Pente joined the duo on the podium with a fifth place finish.
At 157 pounds, redshirt freshman Justin Alexander had to go through freshman Toby Hague in the finals to win the title. Freshman Patrick Gerish also placed.
Derrick Evanovich nabbed third place at 165 pounds before the Terps went on a title run in the next two weight classes. Freshman Inan Sikel captured the 174-pound championship before Phil Robilotto defeated fellow Terrapin Mark Colabucci to win the title at 184 pounds.
Freshman Garrett Wesneski (2nd) and redshirt freshman Dylan Devine (5th) represented Maryland well at 197 pounds. Sophomore Dawson Peck finished off the tournament for Maryland with the title at heavyweight.
