COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The No. 47 Maryland women's tennis faced off against the No. 22 Ohio State on Sunday morning at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terps fell to the Buckeyes by a score of 1-6, dropping to 9-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
The No. 1 position in doubles play saw the Maryland duo of Welma Luus and Ekaterina Tour take down the ITA ranked No. 24 pair of Gabrielle De Santis and Sandy Niehaus, 8-5.
Ohio State overcame the Terps in the lower positions, with Olga Gaistruk and Olivia Gaudreault falling to Buckeyes Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed, 8-4. The Doubles point was clinched by Buckeyes duo Ferny Angeles-Paz and Miho Kowase notching an 8-6 win over Olga Bredikhina and Nataliya Bredikhina.
Singles play was dominated by the Buckeyes, holding the Terps to only one point coming from Tour conquering Sanford 6-1, 6-1.
Gaudreault gave a good account for herself against Kowase in a 6-4, 6-4 loss. O. Bredikhina won the first set against Niehaus, but ultimately loss by a score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Terp Cassandre Thebault was overpowered by Sneed 6-0, 6-0, while De Santis of Ohio State defeated N. Bredikhina 6-4, 6-2. Ohio State sealed the match up with a 6-3, 6-3, victory from Angeles-Paz over Luus.
The Terps look to get back to winning on Saturday against Wisconsin at the Tennis Center at College Park at noon.
