Quick-Hitters

• What's at Stake: With a win, Maryland would claim the Big Ten regular season title outright and grab the number one overall seed in the Big Ten Tournament. With a loss, Maryland would share the Big Ten title with Hopkins and Ohio State (if it also wins). Seeding would be determined by goal differential in conference play.

• Save for a two-year gap due to World War II (1944-45), Maryland has met Johns Hopkins every year since the program's inception in 1924. The Terps are 40-63-1 all-time against the Blue Jays.

• The Terps and Blue Jays collaborated to announce the unveiling of "The Rivalry Trophy" Tuesday, which will be awarded to the annual regular season winner. The wooden trophy weighs 25 pounds and resembles the Maryland blue crab.

• Maryland won its 11th consecutive game last Saturday at Ohio State, scoring four goals in the final 4:22 to force overtime and then win the game. The Terps have a chance to match the longest win streak (12-1987) in the 90-year history of the program.

• Maryland remains the nation's leader in scoring defense at 5.77 goals/g, while goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr continues to lead the nation in GAA (5.59) and save percentage (.640).

• The Terrapins have won three straight games by one goal - the first time the feat has been achieved in the 90-year history of the program.

• Senior attackman Jay Carlson earned his first career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor, totaling four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in the Terps' 10-9 win at Ohio State. Carlson's final tally gave Maryland the win with 49 seconds left in sudden death overtime.

• Maryland won its 32nd consecutive game when scoring at least 10 goals with its victory against Ohio State. The Terps have not lost when scoring at least 10 goals since a 13-11 loss to Colgate on May 5, 2012.

• The Terps won their 14th straight game when holding its opponent to less than 10 goals. The Terps are 24-1 since the start of 2014 in such situations, and 54-7 overall under John Tillman.

• Maryland captured its 13th consecutive 10-win season with its victory over Loyola - the longest current streak in the NCAA. The Terps have advanced to six NCAA Final Fours during the span.

• Junior goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr was named a nominee for the 2015 Tewaaraton Award Thursday. He is the only goalie listed in the top-25.

Big Ten Tournament Seeding Scenarios

Maryland (4-0 B1G), Johns Hopkins (3-1 B1G) and Ohio State (3-1 B1G) have all punched their tickets to the inaugural Big Ten men's lacrosse tournament in College Park, Md., while Michigan (1-2 B1G) and Penn State (1-2 B1G) will play for the fourth and final spot.

• Seeding tiebreakers are based on conference goal differential (with a seven-goal maximum by game). As it currently stands, Maryland is +16, Ohio State is +9 and Johns Hopkins is +7.

• If Maryland defeats Johns Hopkins, then it will claim the Big Ten title outright and be the number one seed in the Big Ten tournament.

Important Parking Info

Series history vs. Johns Hopkins

• Maryland and Hopkins are the two most storied lacrosse programs in the nation, with the rivalry beginning back in 1895 as Hopkins defeated the Maryland Agricultural College. The Blue Jays (42) and Terps (37) have played in the first and third most NCAA Tournaments since the event began in 1971, respectively. Maryland and Hopkins have produced the most first team All-Americans in the history of lacrosse dating to the first awards in 1922.

• While this will be the 112th meeting between the two schools, Maryland's official record vs. Hopkins is 40-63-1. The first seven meetings between the two happened before lacrosse was an official sport at Maryland.

• This is the first meeting in history that a team (Johns Hopkins) is not ranked, since the polls began in 1973.

Chaos in Columbus; terps claim share of title

• Maryland won its 11th straight game in dramatic fashion last Saturday, scoring four goals in the final 4:22 of action to force overtime before Jay Carlson scored the game-winner. The win gave the Terps at least a share of the inaugural Big Ten regular season title.

• Senior Jay Carlson was awarded Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts, posting four points on three goals and one assist.

• The win gave Maryland its third straight one-goal victory - the first time the program has accomplished the feat in the 90-year history of the program.

Nation's top-ranked Defense

• The Terps boast the nation's top-ranked defense, allowing just 577 goals/g through 13 contests in 2015. The Terps are the only team allowing less than seven goals per game in Division I (Towson is second with 7.08 goals/g).

• The Terrapin defense has held all 13 opponents it has faced to scoreless stretches of at least 11 minutes, including 10 stretches of at least 20 minutes.

Terps win 10th straight at Rutgers

• Maryland stretched its winning streak to 10 games with a narrow 9-8 victory at Rutgers on April 12.

• The Terps faced their first haltime deficit of the season, trailing 4-2 at the haltime break, but recovered with five goals in the third quarter to reclaim the lead.

• Sophomore Matt Rambo ignited the Maryland comeback, scoring all three of his goals and dishing three assists in the second half. The most important goal was the last, as Rambo found the back of the net with 13 seconds remaining to give Maryland the win.

Maryland Wins thriller vs. Loyola

• Maryland was put to the test in a midweek thriller as it held on for an 11-10 victory over in-state foe No. 19 Loyola. Goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr proved to be the difference-maker, standing on his head to make multiple saves in the waning moments.

• The Terps scored the game-winning goal with three minutes to play when Bryan Cole finished an outstanding feed from teammate Joe LoCascio. Jay Carlson was extremely efficient in the game, scoring three goals on three shots.

Terps Defeat Nittany lions, 12-5

• The Maryland offense exploded for a season-high eight first quarter goals to run past Penn State, 12-5, on Senior Day at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium on April 4.

• Sophomore Matt Rambo led the way with three goals and two assists, while the Terrapin defense limited the Nittany Lions to just 20 shots in the game.

• The Terrapins were tremendous in all facets, led offensively by five goals from Joe LoCascio and a hat trick by Colin Heacock. Senior Charlie Raffa secured 15-of-22 faceoffs at the faceoff X, while goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr made 11 saves in net.

Holding Opponents To Single-Digits

• Maryland is 142-27 in games since 2002 when it allows nine goals or less, for an .838 winning percentage.

• The Terps have also won 88 percent (75-10 record overall) of its games since 2009 when allowing less than 10 goals.

• The Terps are 24-1 when allowing nine goals or less since the beginning of the 2014 season. The Terps' lone loss last season came to eventual national finalist Notre Dame, 6-5, at the ACC Tournament.

Consecutive 10-Win Seasons

• Maryland's 11-10 win over No. 19 Loyola on April 8 extended the Terps' streak of double-digit win seasons to 13, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.

• There are only four programs with a current streak of at least six-straight 10-win seasons:

  • Maryland (13): 2015: (TBD), 2014 (13-4), 2013 (10-4), 2012 (12-6), 2011 (13-5), 2010 (12-4), 2009 (10-7), 2008 (10-6), 2007 (10-6), 2006 (12-5), 2005 (11-6), 2004 (13-3), 2003 (12-4)

• Cornell's string of seven-straight 10+ win seasons came to an end in 2012 with a 9-4 final mark. Virginia's streak of eight-consecutive seasons with 10+ wins ended in 2013 with a 7-8 record, while Siena saw its run of six 10-win seasons end in 2013 also.

The 700 Club

• Maryland's 15-6 victory over Penn on April 14, 2009 was the program's 700th victory in 84 seasons of varsity men's lacrosse. The Terps join Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Navy, Army and Cornell as the only programs with 700 or more Division I wins.

• Two things that make Maryland's accomplishment all the more impressive is that the Terps reached the 700-win plateau in just their 84th season. Only Syracuse reached win No. 700 in as few seasons, but it took the Orange 53 more games than Maryland. In fact, Maryland needed only 940 games to reach 700 wins and only Johns Hopkins needed fewer games (932) to hit the historic number, but the Blue Jays did so in their 105th season.

• Led by senior midfielder Joe LoCascio, three Maryland men's lacrosse student-athletes were chosen in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft.

• LoCascio was chosen 17th overall by the Florida Launch, and was quickly followed by Charlie Raffa, who was selected 24th overall by the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Inaugural Big Ten Season

• The 2015 season marks the University of Maryland's men's lacrosse team's inaugural campaign competing in the Big Ten Conference. It follows an announcement from the conference office on June 3, 2013 that the Big Ten had secured six men's teams when Johns Hopkins was accepted as a sport affiliate member for men's lacrosse only. The Big Ten has six men's programs: Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers.

• The six programs that will comprise Big Ten men's lacrosse boast 56 national championships, with schools that have competed for more than a century. Johns Hopkins has been an independent since 1883 and leads all schools with 44 national championships. Maryland has claimed 11 national titles, while Rutgers has also won a national championship.

• The Scarlet Knights launched men's lacrosse in 1887, followed by programs starting in 1913 for Penn State, 1924 for Maryland and 1953 for Ohio State. Michigan instituted a men's lacrosse program in 2012. Maryland, Ohio State and Penn State each qualified for the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship this season, with the Buckeyes advancing to the quarterfinals.
