The Maryland women's tennis team opened fall action this weekend with a trip to the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary.
On Friday, the Terps faced off with West Virginia in doubles and won three-of-four matches. Junior Kristina Hovsepyan and sophomore Ekaterina Tour defeated Barrett and Lewis while Olga and Nataliya Bredikhina took out Mrgole and Martinez. Cassandre Thebault and freshman Caroline Williams finished proceedings with a 6-2 win over White and Rosiello.
After playing Penn later that day, the Terps turned their attention to Old Dominion on Saturday and won two matches. Hovsepyan and Tour edged Rajikovic and Vlasova, 7-5, before the freshman tandem of Arnelle Sullivan and Caroline Williams defeated Vojcinakova and Vukovic.
In singles, Maryland swept past a combined effort from Dartmouth and Penn, winning all eight matches. Tour played at No. 1, getting past Dartmouth's Kristina Mathis, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Nataliya Bredikhina, Hovsepyan and Thebault also picked up three-set victories.
Sullivan made easy work of Suzy Tan of Dartmouth, winning her debut singles match 6-1, 6-2. Fellow newcomer Williams also won by a lopsided score, dropping just four games against Penn's Nicole Berkman. Olga Bredikhina and Olga Gaistruk also picked up wins.
On Saturday, Sullivan defeated Sofia Segerfors of VCU, 6-2, 6-2, while Olivia Gaudreault took out Olivia Large of Old Dominion.
Maryland returned to its winning ways on Sunday in singles, grabbing six match victories over West Virginia. Tour and Nataliya Bredikhina both won in straight sets in the top two slots while Olga Bredikhina gutted out a 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 victory over Lyn Yuen Choo.
Thebault dropped just one game in her win over Yvon Martinez, while Williams and Gaudreault also nabbed victories.
Maryland returns to action for the UVA Invite, Sept. 25-27.
