COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team held its first official practice of the 2016-17 season Tuesday at the XFINITY Center.
Due to a foreign trip to Italy in August, the Terrapins were able to add 10 additional practices in the summer time. This was most helpful, as head coach Brenda Frese and her staff welcome six freshmen to the roster, who make up the No. 1 freshman class in the country.
Junior Aja Ellison interviewed Coach Frese about the first practice.

The class is made up of Kaila Charles, Stephanie Jones, Sarah Myers, Destiny Slocum, Jenna Staiti and Blair Watson. All six were McDonald's All-American nominees, with Charles, Slocum and Watson being named All-Americans.
The Terrapins earned an overall record of 31-4 last season and won both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year. Returners Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough earned All-Big Ten First Team honors and WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
