The No. 75 Women's tennis team traveled to the Baton Rouge LSU Tennis Complex to face off against the LSU Tigers. The Terps fell to record of 1-3 on the season with this 6-1 loss.
The opening doubles match featured Abby Owens and Skylar Kuykendall defeating Maryland's Arnelle Sullivan and Ekaterina Tour on the second court. On the first court Maryland won with Alexandra Stanova and Kristina Hovsepyan defeating the No.42 duo of Joana Vale Costa and Ryann Foster with a score of 6-4.In the decisive match in doubles to decide the point, No. 60 Ella Taylor and Skylar Holloway defeated Nataliya Bredikhina and Carolina Williams in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-5).
In singles play, Maryland had a slow start losing five out of the first six sets and in courts one and two, No. 25 Joana Vale Costa and No. 40 Jessica Golovin dropped Arnelle Sulivan (7-5,6-1) and Stanova in doubles with 6-3. On court three, Kuykendal matched N.Bredikhina 6-2,6-4. Foster on the fourth court topped Maryland Ekaterina Tour 6-0, 6-3. On the 6th court Ella Taylor beat Olga Bredikhina 6-1 and 6-2. On court five Hovsepyan continued her winning streak in doubles with a win over Abigail Owens 6-4,4-6,1-0.
"We played well today but we also had some opportunities that we didn't use. We've made indubitable progress and we are looking forward to the next match", Head Coach Daria Panova.
Maryland will continue their road trip in Louisiana when they travel Tuesday, February 16th to New Orleans to face Tulane.
