Box Score ATLANTA, Ga.- Lindsey Schmeiser broke the Maryland softball program home run record with a sixth inning long-ball as the Terrapins battled but fell to No. 5 Alabama 11-5.
Maryland's offense brought out the bats on Sunday, totaling 12 hits for five runs as the Terrapins scored one run in every inning but the second.
The sticks came out early, as Maryland used three early hits to load the bases in the first. Hannah Dewey than drew a RBI walk to put the Terps up 1-0.
Alabama scored two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-1 lead through two.
After Skylynne Ellazar got her second hit in as many at bats to lead off the third and Hannah Dewey cracked a double, Kylie Datil came through with a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to three. Maryland sliced one more run off the Crimson Tide lead in the fourth as Sarah Calta showed her power with a double to the center field fence and Lindsey Schmeiser brought her in with a RBI single. The lead was cut to one in the fifth with Corey Schwartz's second hit of the game, the seniors seventh RBI of 2016 made it 5-4 Alabama.
The Crimson Tide's bats appeared towards the end of the game as the Tide scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to push their run total to double digits.
Lindsey Schmeiser crushed her record setting 31st career dinger to left field in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as Maryland fell 10-5.
