#4 Terps Clash with #7 Yale Saturday

The 4th-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team travels to New Haven, Conn., for the second straight season to face #7 Yale Saturday at 1pm. Maryland is 11-2 all-time against the Bulldogs, and won the most recent meeting in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015.

Facing off

• Maryland picked up a pair of weekly Big Ten honors after its 15-10 season-opening win over High Point, as midfielder Bryan Cole (3G, 4A) was named Offensive Player of the Week and LSM Greg Danseglio (6GB, 2CT) was named Defensive Player of the Week.

• The Terrapins had three players tally hat tricks in the win against High Point: Bryan Cole, Colin Heacock and Dylan Maltz (first career). It was the first time since May 17, 2014 against Bryant that Maryland accomplished the feat.

• Maryland head coach John Tillman coached in the Ivy League for three seasons at Harvard (2008-10). He has more wins against Yale (4) than any other Ivy team in his career.

• Junior attackman Matt Rambo has had the most offensive success against Yale, totaling five points (2G, 3A) in two career games against the Elis. Dylan Maltz and Henry West each tallied two goals in New Haven last season. Senior Matt Dunn is the lone Terrapin on the roster to appear in all three games since 2013.

• Senior Bryan Cole was spectacular in the Terps' win against High Point, tallying a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists. It was the most points for a Terp in a season opener since 2004. Cole has tallied 27 points over his last seven games (3.9 points/g).

•  Maryalnd was incredibly successful against top-10 opponents in 2015, tallying a 4-1 record with its lone loss coming in the NCAA National Championship. The Terps averaged just 7.2 goals against in five games against top-10 opponents.

• Freshman faceoff specialist Austin Henningsen was tremendous in his collegiate debut against High Point, winning 9-of-12 faceoffs to propel the Terps. He opened the game with wins on eight of his first nine attempts.

• The Terrapins hold an 11-2 mark all-time against Yale in a series that dates back to 1925. The teams split the season series in 2015, with the Terps earning the most recent victory in the NCAA Tournament first round in College Park.

• The day following Maryland's win over High Point at Maryland Stadium kicked off a span of 25 days away from home for the Terps. Maryland will play four games on the road before returning home against Albany on March 16.

• The Terrapins are 51-4 under John Tillman when scoring at least 10 goals in a game, including a spectacular mark of 32-1 over the last four seasons.

• Junior attackman Matt Rambo needs just two points to reach 100 points for his career. He would become the 49th Terrapin in history to reach the milestone.

• John Tillman is in his ninth season as a head coach, and sixth with the Terps, with a 84-42 career record for a .668 winning percentage. Tillman is 63-23 (.736) as Maryland's head coach.

• Despite meeting for the first time 91 years ago in 1925, Maryland and Yale have a relatively short series history of 11 meetings. The Terps hold an 11-2 all-time advantage, with both teams claiming a victory last season.

Last Time Out

• Led by senior midfielder Bryan Cole's career-high seven points, the Maryland men's lacrosse team defeated High Point 15-10 on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. It was the 23rd consecutive season-opening win for the Terps.

• Freshman Austin Henningsen had an excellent debut at the faceoff X with nine wins on 12 attempts, while Dylan Maltz and Colin Heacock each added hat tricks.

• Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 51 of the 55 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals for a .926 winning percentage.

TERPS' 91st SEASON OF LACROSSE

• The Terps boast an all-time record of 775-261-4 (.740), dating back to the first varsity team in 1924 (a team was not fielded in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II). Maryland has finished every one of its previous 90 seasons with a .500 or better record, including last season when the Terps went 15-4. The program reached the 700-win milestone with a 15-6 victory over Penn on April 14, 2009 at Ludwig Field.

• During the decade of the 2000s, Maryland went 111-49 for a .694 win percentage, making it the winningest decade in Terrapin lacrosse history. In the decade of the 1990s, Maryland posted a 95-47 record. The .669 winning percentage matched Maryland's win percentage of the 1980s when the Terps went 83-41 and also compiled a .669 win percentage. 

• Through the 2015 season, Maryland is 53-17 in the 2010's for a .757 winning percentage - on pace for the best decade in Maryland history.
