Facing off

• The Terps clinched their first outright Big Ten title (and second consecutive) when they defeated rival Johns Hopkins, 11-8, Saturday to cap a 5-0 conference season. It gave the University of Maryland its 14th Big Ten Conference title since joining the league in 2015 - tied for the most during that span with Michigan.

• A program and Big Ten record seven Terrapins were selected to the Big Ten All-Conference teams: Kyle Bernlohr (1st), Bryan Cole (1st), Isaiah Davis-Allen (1st), Greg Danseglio (HM), Colin Heacock (HM), Tim Muller (HM) and Matt Rambo (HM). Bernlohr also made the Tewaaraton Award top-25.

• Maryland recorded its 10th win of the season against Navy to extend its NCAA-best streak of 10-win seasons to 14 consecutive years dating back to 2003. Notre Dame has the second-most (10), while Duke is third (9).

• Maryland has stretched its winning streak to 11 games, tying last season's mark for the second-longest win streak in program history. With a win, the Terps would match the record 12-game win streak set by the 1987 team, which started 12-0.

• Maryland has held its opponent scoreless for a drought of at least 20 minutes in each of its last four contests: Ohio State (23:42), Navy (20:58), Rutgers (20:40) and Johns Hopkins (23:31). The Terrapin defense currently ranks eighth nationally, and has yet to allow more than 10 goals in 2016.

• Maryland is a perfect 31-0 all-time against Penn State dating back to the first meeting in 1924. The Terps defeated PSU earlier this season, 11-10, in overtime on a Bryan Cole game-winner. After allowing eight goals in the first 20:21, the Terps gave up just two goals in the final 42:56 as goalie Kyle Bernlohr made a career-high 14 saves.

• Junior Colin Heacock leads the Terps with a career-high 32 goals this season, scoring at least two goals in 12-of-14 games. His 11-game scoring streak is the longest of his career and the longest active Maryland streak.

• Maryland's seven-man defensive starting unit has played an average of 47 career games, led by Greg Danseglio (59) and Matt Dunn (57). Including the starting six on offense, the Terps have played a collective 677 career games - an average of 44 games per player.

•  The Terrapins are 61-4 under John Tillman when scoring at least 10 goals in a game, including a spectacular mark of 42-1 over the last four seasons. That trend has continued this season with a perfect 11-0 mark. Maryland is also 59-4 when leading at halftime under Tillman.

• Junior Matt Rambo scored two goals against Hopkins to reach 96 total goals for his career, tying Ron Martinello (1977-81) for 13th on the Maryland goals list. Rambo needs just four more goals to become the 13th player in Maryland history to record 100 career goals.

Coaching Match-Up

John Tillman is in his ninth season as a head coach, and sixth with the Terps, with a 95-44 career record for a .683 winning percentage. Tillman is 75-25 (.750) as Maryland's head coach.

• Penn State's Jeff Tambroni is in his sixth season with the Nittany Lions.

Series history vs. Penn State

• Maryland defeated Penn State, 8-1, in its inaugural season and has not lost since, defeating the Nittany Lions in all 31 matchups.

• Maryland has had immense success against Penn State, defeating the Nittany Lions by at least four goals in all but one meeting - the most recent one this season.

• The Terps won an overtime thriller earlier this season at Penn State, 11-10. Colin Heacock and Henry West each had hat tricks in the game, while Bryan Cole scored the game-winner with 43 seconds remaining in overtime.

Maryland beats Hopkins; claims B1G outright

• Maryland used a complete team effort to defeat No. 8 Johns Hopkins, 11-8, and claim the 2016 Big Ten Title outright in lacrosse's greatest rivalry on April 30.

• Despite just a 5-for-22 effort at the faceoff X, the Terps found a way to win. Senior Bryan Cole led the offense with four points (1G, 3A), while Matt Rambo and Connor Kelly each added two goals and an assist. Goalie Kyle Bernlohr made three big time saves in the fourth quarter.

Terps run past ohio state, 10-8

• Maryland defeated Ohio State, 10-8, on April 24 to clinch at least a share of its second consecutive Big Ten regular season title.

• The Terps had seven different goal scorers, including two-goal performances by junior attackman Matt Rambo, junior attackman Colin Heacock and senior midfielder Bryan Cole. Rambo also matched his career-high with a trio of assists for a five-point effort to lead Maryland to their 10th-straight victory.

• During the run, the Terrapin defense held the Ohio State attack scoreless for a span of 24:42, marking the third straight contest Maryland has held its opponent scoreless for a span of 20 minutes or more.

MAryland Stifles Navy, 10-5

• Maryland defeated No. 7 Navy, 10-5, on April 19 to put a stamp on their NCAA-best 14th consecutive 10-win season and ninth consecutive victory.

• Maryland smothered the Navy attack, limiting the Mids to just 23 shots and 22 ground balls as senior Greg Danseglio caused three turnovers. Offensively junior Colin Heacock matched his career-high with four points (2G, 2A), while Connor Kelly, Tim Rotanz and Henry West each added two goals.

• The patented hard-shell defense stood tall once again holding the Navy offense scoreless for a period of 20:58 in the first half. Senior goalie Kyle Bernlohr made five stops on the night.

Maltz leads terps past Rutgers

• Maryland claimed sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference April 16 as it defeated No. 18 Rutgers, 11-8, on a career-high four goals from Dylan Maltz.

• The Terps found themselves trailing, 6-3, with 12:05 remaining in the third quarter before the offense caught fire, exploding for a seven-goal run and securing a lead they would never surrender. The win marked Maryland's eighth consecutive victory.

• The run, paced entirely by the starting attack unit, saw Maltz net three of his four goals on the day, while Colin Heacock (3G) and Matt Rambo (3G, 2A) each scored two of their three tallies, giving the Terps a 10-6 lead with 7:27 remaining in the contest.

Get To 10 And Win

• Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 61 of the 65 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals for a .938 winning percentage.

• The Terps have won 44 of their last 5 games when scoring at least 10 goals, only falling to Johns Hopkins during that streak in 2015.

2016 11-0
2015 12-1  Johns Hopkins, 12-15

Holding Opponents To Single-Digits

• Maryland is 67-10 since Tillman took over the program in 2011 when it allows nine goals or less, for an .870 winning percentage.

• The Terps are 44-5 over the last four seasons when allowing less than 10 goals.

Consecutive 10-Win Seasons

• Maryland's 10-5 win over 7th-ranked Navy on April 19, 2016 extended the Terps' streak of double-digit win seasons to 14, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.

• There are only three programs with a current streak of at least nine-straight 10-win seasons:

  • Maryland (15): 2016 (TBD), 2015 (15-4), 2014 (13-4), 2013 (10-4), 2012 (12-6), 2011 (13-5), 2010 (12-4), 2009 (10-7), 2008 (10-6), 2007 (10-6), 2006 (12-5), 2005 (11-6), 2004 (13-3), 2003 (12-4)

TERPS' 91st SEASON OF LACROSSE

• The Terps boast an all-time record of 775-261-4 (.740), dating back to the first varsity team in 1924 (a team was not fielded in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II). Maryland has finished every one of its previous 90 seasons with a .500 or better record, including last season when the Terps went 15-4. The program reached the 700-win milestone with a 15-6 victory over Penn on April 14, 2009 at Ludwig Field.

• During the decade of the 2000s, Maryland went 111-49 for a .694 win percentage, making it the winningest decade in Terrapin lacrosse history. In the decade of the 1990s, Maryland posted a 95-47 record. The .669 winning percentage matched Maryland's win percentage of the 1980s when the Terps went 83-41 and also compiled a .669 win percentage.

• So far, Maryland is 53-17 in the 2010's for a .757 winning percentage - on pace for the best decade in Maryland history.
